#329 - white on "black"

The subway performers were out in full force today. . . probably because it was "Black Friday".

#328 - happy thanksgiving

Thanksgiving comes to us out of the prehistoric dimness,
universal to all ages and all faiths.
At whatever straws we must grasp,
there is always a time for gratitude and new beginnings.

#327 - leaves' leaving

"I don't mind the leaves that are leaving. It's the leaves that are coming."
- Piglet (Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day)

I mind the leaves' leaving. This tree was full and orange just a few days ago. Winter is coming.

#325 - guatemalan worry people

The accompanying slip of paper reads:

---

There is a story that when the Mayan people of Guatemala have worries,
they tell them to the worry dolls and then put them under their pillow at night.
By morning the worry dolls have taken all the worries away.

Thanks, E.

#320 - can I have a fish?

Meet Clementine

The Hotel Monaco hands out goldfish upon check-in, if you ask for them.

Of course, I did.

The exchange went something like this:

Front Desk Attendant: Checking in? Last name?

Me: KentCanIhaveafish?

Clementine kept me company during my stay in Chicago.

#318 - the one that started it all...

The other day I was in one of our conference rooms when I spied this on a shelf.

I nearly interrupted the meeting I was in to go pick it up. I haven't seen it in years... probably since I was one, in fact...

Babies by Gyo Fujikawa was my first favorite book.

I could recite the entire thing, complete with "t"s as "c"s.

I probably still can.

This afternoon I went back to give it a read.

#316 - when autumn comes

Central Park

Add Image

When autumn comes
and leaves obey
I think of you when spring was new
and fall was miles away.

And when I close my eyes I see you
and I don't feel the chill.
When autumn comes
it's summer still.

When autumn comes
and wild geese fly
I wonder do you see them to
across the restless sky?

And does October catch you dreaming
of Central Park in June?
Or is love lost beneath the frost
of autumn's moon. . .

#308 - like a beacon

I could see the light from a block away.

Like a beacon.

Calling.
