Irene is coming to New York City! This was my day today...

Here is a photo of the notice they put up on our apartment building yesterday. I snapped this when I went out this morning. There were quite a few people out, going grocery shopping and taking dogs for walks. It was really, really humid.
I went to the gym and watched Mayor Bloomberg's press conference there. He announced mandatory evacuations of New Jersey and other "Zone A" and "low-lying areas" and discussed the MTA closures.
After the gym I went to my bodega (corner store by my apartment) for a couple of things. Normally the longest line is only one or two people. Here's what I encountered. Notice the boxes of Poland Spring water. People were snatching them up as quickly as the guy could stock them on the shelves.
Then I went on a hunt for batteries. The one thing I forgot yesterday.
There were no batteries anywhere, of course. I tried CVS first.
"No really... We have no batteries."

Am spending time at home with my roommate tonight. We have a stack of movies, a bottle of wine, and books and internet connection. Should be an interesting night!
