#270 - to-do list

My work "to-do" list was messy today and was driving me crazy. . .

So I re-wrote it. . .

and felt much better.

#268 - sunday afternoon walk

When I first moved to NYC I spent a lot of time walking around Central Park. Since I didn't know many people it was a great way for me to spend time, take in my new surroundings, and people watch. Over time, as I've established myself here, I've spent less time in certain parts of the park (and at the park in general.)

So today I decided to walk into the park at the 90's and make my way down to Columbus Circle via The Ramble, Bethesda Fountain, and the Mall.

Along the way I came upon a couple getting married in front of Bethesda Fountain. Once onlookers realized what was going on they gathered, taking the number of wedding guests from a handful to about 30 or so. I snapped this photo. You can barely see the bride. Kind of cool to be a part of. . . just by happenstance.

Not bad for a Sunday afternoon walk. . .

#267 - pieces of them

"Sky blue pink" reminds me of Dad.

Mom sent me this today.
The accompanying text said, "You are my sunshine!"

"I find a map and draw a straight line
over rivers, farms, and state lines.
The distance from 'A' to where you'd be
it's only finger-lengths that I see."

#258 - the wall

I like to call this tomfoolery for the children's book publishing set.
My co-worker calls it "the wall."
Now I can look up to the teen stars every time I need advice or am having a bad day.

#257 - flowers from e

Erin sent me belated birthday flowers.
They've made me very popular as people have started
stopping by my cubicle to ask me who they are from.

#256 - embargoed

Today, I finally got my hands on an embargoed manuscript I'm reading for work. (I feel privileged to be one of the few people allowed to read it pre-publication.) This made me feel like I was carrying contraband home in my bag. I'm on page 11 and am hooked. Love that.

#255 - in memoriam

I walked up Seventh Avenue to 18th Street tonight and on my way I passed the Tiles for America and St. Vincent's Hospital (now closed) sites. This is what I saw...

#253 - jaywalking and jamming*

Caught these geese jaywalking. . .

Gotham Girls Roller Derby at Hunter College
The Brooklyn Bombshells make their entrance.

"Jeerleaders" and mascot (see the tugboat?) cheering their team on.

The Brooklyn Bombshells v. Queens of Pain
Bombshells won a very close game! (136-134)

*In roller derby a "jam" is the name of each two minute period in which the players attempt to score points. There are two "jammers" (one for each team) who try to break through the pack from behind, circle the track, and attempt to pass them again. Points are earned for each opponent a jammer passes.

#244 - glimpse of the 9

The 9 train no longer existed by the time I moved to New York, however, people who have been here for a decade or longer still often say "Take the 1-9..."

I caught this glimpse of an uncovered 9 sign in Penn Station last night.
